“Fiesta Universal is a great way to kick off Travel & Tourism Week,” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Events such as this contribute to the unique appeal of The Woodlands as a premier getaway destination.”

According to the Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau, hundreds of thousands of travelers from 80 countries around the world visit The Woodlands each year for business and leisure travel. In Montgomery County, tourism is a $2 billion industry, 80 percent of which takes place in The Woodlands.

Nationally, travel and tourism remains one of America’s largest industries, according to the U.S. Travel Association, based on expenditures made by domestic and international travelers. The industry also employs a large percentage of our population with 7.7 million direct travel-generated jobs and $188 billion in travel-generated payroll.

The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau aims to drive demand for The Woodlands as a travel destination, thereby creating new revenue for businesses and increasing sales and hotel occupancy tax for The Woodlands Township. Tax revenue generated by the tourism industry is invested back into improving The Woodlands’ infrastructure and programs.
