THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- As summer heats up, it is prime time to get active...especially with your pets. The Woodlands and surrounding areas provide an array of activities to keep your animals entertained.

The Woodlands’ dog parks in Sterling Ridge, Cochran’s Crossing, and Grogan’s Mill are great places for your dog to socialize and exercise. Each dog park is solely dedicated to dogs and fenced in to ensure the segregation between the dogs and people at play. It is extremely important to make good use of the water sources at these parks. The health of your pet in the Texas summer heat should be monitored closely.

Both the Cattail Dog Park and Bear Branch Dog Park in Cochran’s Crossing offer a small dog area for dogs 25 lbs. and under in addition to a large dog area for dogs over 25 lbs. Owners should take caution and assess their animal’s reaction to other dogs as the dogs run freely off their leashes.

There are also many services in close proximity that will come to your home and walk your dog. This is great for people who work during the weekdays and cannot tend to their animals 24/7 during the summer months.

Another great option to keep your pets entertained for the summer is dog daycare and camps, or what most facilities call “doggy day camps.” There are even some specialty facilities that offer swimming for your pets to help beat the summer heat. And perhaps a backyard kiddy pool filled with water is the perfect afternoon activity for your dog...or kids to stay cool!

Owners should be wary of temperatures during the day and try to find well- shaded areas outdoors in addition to keeping pets hydrated. Animals are just as susceptible to sunburns, heatstroke, and heat exhaustion and it is critical to know the symptoms. Your pets want to have fun during the summer too, give them the tender loving care they need.
