THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- It’s that time of year again: back to school. No more lazy dog days of summer lounging sun soaked by the pool. It’s time to break out the new supplies and settle into hard desks in cold classrooms. So what’s the bright side? I’m happy to tell you there is one- for teachers at least.

Teachers are some of our unsung heroes. They work tirelessly before, during, and after school everyday and they too have their share of homework. Many stores acknowledge their hard work by offering them discounts. “Where are these beautiful places?” you might be asking yourself. Actually, many area stores offer discounts for teachers.

Beauty & Fitness

1. Visible Changes

Present your school ID and receive a 10 percent discount on your first visit.

2. Title Boxing Club

Teachers receive $10 off the yearly membership price of $69.

3. YMCA

Corporate discount waives $100 joining fee for teachers.

Books and School Supplies

1. Office Depot

Office Depot offers a Star Teacher Program that gives teachers an extra five percent off in-store purchases plus 15 percent off all copy and print orders.

2. Office Max

Office Max has a similar program called MaxPerks Rewards that is geared towards teachers. For every $75 spent you get $10 in rewards and for every ink or toner cartridge recycled you get $2 in rewards.

3. FedEx Office

The Academic Edge program at FedEx offers 15 percent off most products in-store and online.

4. Joann’s Fabric

Joann’s has a Teacher Rewards Discount Card that gives an extra 15 percent off all purchases to educators plus new members get 20 percent off just for signing up.

5. Hobby Lobby

Take 10 percent off when you pay with an organizational check or credit card.

6. Michael’s

Enjoy 15 percent off (some exclusions apply)

7. Barnes & Noble

The B&N Educator Program offers educators with 20 percent off the original price of products. On Teacher Appreciation Days, discounts go up to 25 percent.

8. Half Price Books

The Educator Discount Card gives a 10 percent all-inclusive discount to teachers and even teachers who have been laid off in the past year.

9. The New York Times

Deliveries of this paper cost half the price for teachers with the first four weeks costing only $0.99.

Electronics

1. Apple

The Apple Education Store offers discounts up to $200 on computers and accessories.

2. Dell

Two to Four percent off any desktop or laptop is available for any teacher whose school is associated with Dell.

3. HP

The HP Academy rewards exclusive discounts and free shipping on all orders to those who sign up.

4. Sony

Discounts usually vary between five to 10 percent.

5. Bose

Discounts vary on all products. Call the Sales Solution Team at 1-800-353-4027 for pricing and ordering.

6. Adobe

The Adobe Education Store offers discounts on some products with the proof of employment as an educator.

Teachers need a back to school wardrobe too. With your school ID you can get 15 percent off purchases in-store.

The Loft Loves Teachers program gives 15 percent off in-store purchases to fashion savvy educators.

Enjoy 15 percent off in-store purchases with the proof of a school ID from New York and Co.

4. The Limited

With proper ID or a pay stub, teachers can receive 15 percent off all in-store purchases.

5. Banana Republic

Take 15 percent off in-store purchases here with a valid school ID.
