THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Having a healthy set of teeth and jaw alignment is invaluable to all of us. A healthy bite guarantees comfort and protects us from having gum disease, tooth decay, bone destruction, speech impairment or chewing difficulties among many other problems that can be a direct result of a misaligned jaw and overcrowded teeth. Of course, the most obvious feature of having healthy teeth is in bearing a confident smile, and expressing your very own signature way of showing pleasure and felicity in its best form.

Having practiced orthodontics in The Woodlands for around 19 years, Dr. Brad Leiker and the Leiker Orthodontics team has helped many in the community gain healthy smiles. On Wednesday, September 4 opened their very own building at 4000 South Panther Creek Drive, just adjacent to McCullough Junior High School. The decision to move from their 4840 West Panther Creek Drive location came from the desire to open their own building after previously leasing for 13 years.

“I didn’t want to move too far from our existing location, because it wouldn’t have been such a great thing for most of our patients’ schedules,” Dr. Brad Leiker said. “Also at this point, I’ve been practicing in The Woodlands for almost 20 years and I’ve always wanted to build my own building."

Striving for perfection in providing a smooth orthodontic experience, Dr. Leiker is devoted to his patients. “Dr. Leiker doesn’t like to keep patients waiting, and he wants everything to run smoothly. Peoples’ time is valuable,” said Dana Leiker, financial manager and wife of Dr. Leiker. “Of the patients that leave reviews through our website, most comment that they didn’t have to wait.”

The new building is sure to be an enhancement to this commitment. “Having our own parking lot is going to be a big plus,” said Dana Leiker. “We shared our last building with a lot of other offices making parking sometimes difficult on our patients.”

Making the most of more space in their new location, the orthodontics team also made several upgrades in dental equipment. “What is wonderful is that we now have a computer at each station by all our orthodontic chairs. This makes the process of orthodontic treatment much smoother for everybody.”

With the increased space, the homey exterior of the building and inviting décor of newly added granite countertops and wooden furniture serve as a visual representation of Dr. Leiker and his team’s core principles- of providing personal care to their patients within a relaxed environment.

“A lot of the time the doctor isn’t able to see everybody. We try to make it where everybody gets along and everybody is always laughing and talking. We want a relaxed environment to break the ice, as opposed to an intimidating sterile one with the lab coats, and the sound of the drill,” Dr. Leiker said.

“We are a smaller practice. Our old office had four orthodontic chairs. We have only added one more chair in this new location. We wanted to remain small, where Dr. Leiker cares for everybody. We didn’t want our practice to be become too big and impersonal. We just needed more space,” Dana Leiker said.

Though small in its practice size, Dr. Leiker and his staff provide very high quality orthodontic treatment using some of the latest advancements in orthodontic technology, which Dr. Leiker personally researched and critically assessed in its ability to truly benefit the patient. Dr. Leiker is among the small percentage of orthodontists in the nation to use the ROTH Functional Orthodontic Technique, a diagnostic where you locate the proper jaw position so a good functional position is established before treating to fit that position.

“Sometimes as doctors close the gaps between the teeth making them fit together really nice, the jaw is nowhere near where it is supposed to be fitting. This can cause temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) and issues like that as patients get older,” Dr. Leiker said.

“ROTH is a specialized training after orthodontic school consisting of a two-year course that doctors can choose to take. Dr. Leiker chose to take the course,” said Sheila Walker, the treatment coordinator for Leiker Orthodontics.

Dr. Leiker is one of the few orthodontists north of Houston to provide Lingual braces, braces built in behind the teeth to be hidden from the front. “Very few orthodontists provide Lingual braces because it is complicated to learn," Dr. Leiker said. "[Lingual braces] also have quite a short treatment time and we were trained by the orthodontist based in California who developed that treatment plan.”

Leiker Orthodontics also offers smaller Self-Ligating braces (features a clip that holds the wire as opposed to rubber bands) with Bio-force nickel titanium wires which result in more comfort with less pressure on the teeth. Fewer appointments are needed as a result of quicker tooth movement compared to traditional braces.

In addition to this new building at South Panther Creek, Dr. Leiker has a second location situated at 1003 Longmire Road in Conroe. For more information on Dr. Leiker visit the link below.
