The students participate as a management team helping the mayor solves an environmental issue. The challenge runs from October 8 – November 19. You can sign up for the PTO, join our mailing list or join a committee to volunteer at our website: www.twhspto.org. If you would rather join off-line, a paper form will be coming home on the first day of school with your student. We will also have a table set up at Open House to sign up for PTO. Please visit our website or stop by to join PTO and sign up for a volunteer job. Many opportunities exist... even for parents that work! If you want to make sure you are included in our Student Directory, you must join by October 1. Keep calm and highlander on! Our new work/study program is off to a fantastic start in its first year. Students are building skills for the 21st century via a curriculum that allows them to gain “real-world” work experience while also participating in curriculum related to employment and business skills. This fall the students will participate in Deloitte's 2013 Virtual Team Challenge (Spill!), a multiplayer business simulation which is set in a 3D New City setting. The students participate as a management team helping the mayor solves an environmental issue. The challenge runs from October 8 – November 19. The curriculum emphasizes general business principles such as business ethics, negotiation skills, the decision-making process, and gives them an introduction to accounting principles. The challenge also focuses on the development of valuable skills including teamwork, communication, professionalism and research.
Our CareerPrep students are networking with area professionals via paid and unpaid practicums in a work-based learning experience. This year's students have a wide career focus including architecture, business administration, real estate, interior design, business management, and restaurant management to name a few of their career paths. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their employment, time-management and people skills by interacting in the “real world.”
