THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- October is here and with it the hopes of cooler temperatures. After five months of some brutal Texas heat, it looks like we'll see a break in the temperatures this weekend, just in time for some great community activities.

According to our weather partner, KHOU, local chances for rain will jump over Saturday and Sunday when the cool front moves through. We'll go from current temperatures in the 90s with lows in the 70s to highs in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 50s. We'll enjoy these temperatures for the following week, as well.

Tropical Storm Karen is currently in the Gulf of Mexico, but meteorologists don't expect the storm to impact Texas.

While there is about a 30 percent chance for rain on Sunday, there are plenty of events around town for you to enjoy the break in the heat:

The Sixth Annual Creekside Campout: Beginning Saturday, the entire family can enjoy a true camp experience at Rob Fleming Park.

Fall Festival: Grace Presbryterian hosts their Fall Festival, a free community event featuring rides, games, a cookout and more.

Cars and Coffee for a Cause: Take a stroll through Market Street and enjoy classic cars while you give back to four local non-profits.

Special Needs Siblings (SNS) Event: Lone Star College hosts this event at Alden Bridge Park featuring games, pumpkin football, food and more.

First Annual Make Your Own Scarecrow Competition: Think you've got what it takes? Test your skills and enjoy music at Concert in the Park.

Fun. in concert: The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion hosts Fun.
