THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Lily, the Pit Bull Ambassador's birthday is this Wednesday and she has decided to celebrate in a big way this year. She is giving the gift of life to 10 shelter dogs by fully funding their transport to a shelter in the northeast United States (Dakin, MA.). She is working in conjunction with Operation Pets Alive (OPA) and their program Pups on Trucks.

Because Lily is fully funding the transport, OPA is naming the transport in her honor as “Lily’s Birthday Gift ~ Transport #82”. Lily will be asking her Facebook fans to help her celebrate by donating to help fund another dog on OPA’s next transport (January 29). If Lily’s friends can get the January 29 transport fully funded (10 dogs; we already have one funded), OPA will also name that transport in her honor as “Lily’s Birthday Gift Transport from her Friends”.

As a former shelter dog, Lily’s goal is to help these shelter dogs get a second chance, just like she got, and go to another shelter where they will most likely be adopted within a week. In this area of Massachusetts they actually have a need for dogs by the public.

Lily's other goals are:

Help support OPA’s program (OPA is a local non-profit).

Help raise awareness of the plight of shelter pets and the importance of spaying and neutering to decrease the number of unwanted pets in our own community.

Encourage others to help fund another dog’s “freedom ride” to a forever home.

Lily teamed up with OPA because of the positive impact they have made in the community and because after speaking with their president, she found that she shares the same goal of promoting responsible pet ownership, educating the public about adopting shelter pets and spaying and neutering. By partnering on this project, they can make a bigger difference.

OPA’s “Lily’s Birthday Gift ~ Transport #82” will depart this Wednesday from Best Friends (on I-45) at around 1 p.m. The dogs selected will arrive with their fosters at around 12:30 p.m. to have some pictures taken. Lily will have a birthday cake and some doggie snacks for the people/fosters and pets before they board the transport truck. Each transport pup will receive a special bandana from Lily and a card to their adopter. Each of the transport dogs will be giving Lily a 'pawtographed' card thanking her for sponsoring their freedom ride out of the shelter.

After this Wednesday’s truck leaves, Lily will be helping select the pups flagged for the January 29 transport, posting pictures and comments about them on her FB page and giving information about the pups while encouraging others to help fund them. On January 29, she’ll attend the transport send off to wish those pups well on their journey.
