Conroe ISD Campus Updates: January 29-February 4
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from January 29-February 4.
Birnham Woods Elementary School
Spirit Sticks will be on sale in the cafeteria the morning of January 29 from 7:20-7:45. Parents are welcome to accompany their child. Science Benchmarks are as follows: Third Grade–Wednesday January 29; Second Grade–Thursday January 30; Fourth Grade–Friday January 31. Social Studies Benchmark for Third Grade will take place on Tuesday February 4. All Lost and Found clothing items are being donated at the end of January. If your child is missing a jacket or coat feel free to come in at any time to look through the Lost and Found.
Broadway Elementary School
January 30, Broadway will be celebrating Skate Night at Skatetown from 6:00-8:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 1, Broadway will be participating in the CISD Sci Tech Fair. Friday, February 7 is our Family Game Night at Broadway. First graders will enjoy reading with family in their “classroom café” during Reading Restaurant Week, January 27-31. Third grade Geo Day is January 31.
Bush Elementary School
Spring pictures will be on Thursday, February 6. The Parent Teacher Organization will hold their annual Valentine's Dance on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. Fathers bring your daughters and mothers bring your sons.
Collins Intermediate School

Giesinger Elementary January 23, 2014 Community heroes from the local fire department read to students in celebration of National Reading Day, January 23, 2014. We are still collecting pennies for Penny Partners. Be sure to bring in your pennies.
Glen Loch Elementary School
The Parent Teacher Organization will hold a skate night on Tuesday February 4 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm and SK8town. The monthly Parent Teacher Organization meeting will be held in the Glen Loch library at 12:00 on Monday February 3. Houston area author Hilary Ralles will visit Glen Loch on Thursday January 30 to hold writing workshops with fourth graders and give a presentation about Science Fiction to third graders. The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as a fund raiser. Please continue to drop off your plastic shopping bags for our recycling collection. Plastic bag recycling bins are located just inside the front doors.
Hailey Elementary School
Renowned children's author, Susan Stevens Crummel, will visit Hailey students Thursday, January 30, during class time. Autographed copies of her books are available for purchase. Third grade volcano projects will be presented during the school day Thursday, January 30. The annual Eyeglasses Party will be held in the school library Friday, January 31. All students who wear glasses or contact lenses are invited to attend this special event during the school day. Students are invited to attend the annual SCI://TECH Expo Science Fair at the Lone Star Convention Center Saturday, February 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.
Hauke Alternative

Irons Junior High School
The Irons Cheerleaders will be collecting nonperishable food items for the Montgomery County Food Bank in support of "Super Bowl for Caring" until January 31st. The 7th Grade HAWKS Star Athlete of the Week are Chandler King (48 pts ) and Mark Henderson (24 pts) from the Magnolia basektball tournament. The 8th Grade HAWKS Star Athlete of the Week Bishop Durst.
Kaufman Elementary School
The fourth grade blood pressure screenings and presentation will take place on Thursday, January 30. The week of February 3 – 7 will be the Scholastic Book Fair preview. Students in second through fourth grade will be taking the middle of the year Social Studies Benchmark test. Tuesday, February 4, there will be a second grade Envision Parent meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Lamar Elementary School
We will be having our Social Studies Benchmark on February 4.
McCullough Junior High School
Spring pictures will occur on February 3 and 4 through social studies classes. McCullough “hoodies “ are now on sale in the front office for $20.00 each. All sizes are available, but supplies are limited. The 2014-2015 Cheerleader Tryout Informational Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the Bock Auditorium. This meeting is mandatory and a parent/guardian must accompany the student. The tryout application packet will be handed out at the meeting and all forms from the packet checklist must be filled out and returned to the front office by 4:00 p.m. on February 20. The mandatory tryout clinic will be March 3 through 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The McCullough Charity League was able to purchase large recycling bins for the school with money raised during their fall fund raiser. The bins were delivered to all classrooms this week.
Mitchell Intermediate School
Congratulations to the following students whose artwork was chosen to represent Mitchell Intermediate at the Houston Livestock Show Western Art Show: Tori Bowman, Michael Day, Sam Sullivan, Maho Muriel, Paris Couch, Matt Provost, Tobi Miller, Garrett Benson, Madyson Howard, Colton Fokken, Abby Decker, Kate Holick, Kennedy Zapalac, Peyton Farnum, Marion Dondald, and Hannah Lee. The Magnificent Mustang Ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 30 at 9:15 a.m. in the Commons. The Fifth Grade winter band concert will be held on Thursday, January 30 in the Commons at 6 p.m. LCs 1 & 2 will present their Envision Expo projects on Friday, January 31 in the school library. The Spring Book Fair will be held in the school library February 3-14. LC6 students will visit the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center on February 4.
Oak Ridge Elementary School
On Wednesday, January 29, Mother Goose will be visiting the Oak Ridge Elementary Library. She will be reading some of her most beloved stories to students in PK through 1st grade.
Oak Ridge High School
Oak Ridge High School freshmen competed in the Spring ISD Freshman Honor Band Auditions. The following students were placed in the Honor Band. Congratulations to: Vanessa Davis - 2nd chair clarinet, Kaitlyn Torres - 6th chair clarinet, Ben Chloupek - 2nd chair oboe, Jordon Manson- 1st chair bassoon, Andrew Di Guilio - 2nd chair trumpet, Seth Regester - 4th chair trumpet and Ben Stinson - 1st chair trombone.
Powell Elementary School
On Wednesday, January 29, the annual Boosterthon will kick off. This Parent Teacher Organization sponsored fundraiser will emphasize respecting others, showing sportsmanship, don't bully others, friendships and strengths. It will come to a close on Friday, February, 7 with a Fun Run.
Snyder Elementary School
January 30 4th Graders will be showcasing their Science projects during the Science Expo Extravaganza at 1:30 p.m. Snyder Stallion Standouts will be honored at 2 p.m. on January 31. Author Susan Stephens Crummel will be sharing her books with students on February 3. Visit the Snyder website for more information.

Go Project Purple Week! Project Purple Initiative empowers youth to stand up and make a difference. Project Purple gives students motivation and support as they embrace a message of education and awareness. Students learn that they do not need drugs and alcohol to meet life's challenges; that they are perfect the way they are. Show your spirit and pladge to Go Purple!
The Woodlands High School
The 4th annual Palettes & Paintings unveiling and fundraiser will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at from 6:30-9pm. A silent auction which includes 100 artists palettes crafted into original works of art by accomplished students, faculty, alumni and local artists are offered for sale to the general public. Each year we add new works to the collection and our next selection process has begun. All proceeds will be used to grow and conserve the permanent collection of professional art work on display daily at The Woodlands High School. Come out and visit with these talented artists and view their inspiring art work.
York Junior High School
Girl's track season starts on Tuesday, January 28. Students should meet at 7:20am in the gym. They must have a physical and wear PE or athletic clothes to practice. There is also a meeting for girl's track parents January 28 at 5:30pm. More information can be found on the website. Parents of incoming eighth graders are invited to a Parent Information Night concerning Course Selection on Tuesday, January 28 at 6pm in the York cafeteria. There will be an Academic Showcase at the Oak Ridge main campus on January 30 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. This is a great way for students to see the courses of study available and to talk to teachers and current students. Parents of incoming ninth graders are invited to a Parent Help Night at ORHS9 on February 3. It is a come and go event with counselors available from 3:30 to 6:30pm. They will be answering question about course selection.
