THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands high school is known statewide for every sport in the book. Every sport you can name has a Highlander in every corner of the United States.

Well, you can add one more sport to the list. The state-ranked Woodlands lacrosse team is sending two athletes with Division I scholarships to points north as Sean McCanna and Tyler Murphy will be taking their abilities to the University of Michigan and Fairfield University, respectively.

There have been other Woodlands lacrosse players going Division I such as Ian Seale just last year but never two in one year which doesn't happen very often in Texas.

Why did they choose these schools?

"I chose Fairfield because I like what it has to offer academically and in terms of lacrosse I really liked the Coach (Andrew Copelan) and what he is doing with the program," said Murphy.

"Michigan was the best option I had to choose from. They're a new team in D-1 so hopefully I'll get the chance to play right away. The big school atmosphere is intriguing and they are good at all sports so I'll get to watch a lot of action. Most important, they have great academics," said McCanna.

Highlander lacrosse head coach Keith Tintle was elated with his charges. "In Sean you have a kid who made All-American after playing the game for just three years making him arguably the best lacrosse athlete in the state. With Tyler we have the heart and soul of our lacrosse team back in action at full strength. Both of these guys are two of the smartest guys I've ever had. You never have to explain anything twice to these guys," said Tintle.

Born on the same date, you would assume Murphy and McCanna have good chemistry on the field and you'd be right. Watching these two talented young athletes throw no-look on the money passes to each other is a regular occurrence as evidenced by their combined 13 goals and nine assists in two recent victories over Strake Jesuit, and Friendswood, respectively.

Murphy, McCanna and The Woodlands lacrosse team is in action on Saturday as The Woodlands (2-0) hosts their annual Mudslinger Tournament.
