THE WOODLANDS, Texas - AJ Thorpe and The Woodlands High School lacrosse team dismantled the Dallas Jesuit Rangers ( 8-4) 7-0 at the Texas High School Lacrosse League Houston Super-Regional in Houston on Sunday to advance to the THSLL Final 4 on Saturday, May 9-10 in Round Rock.

Thorpe, The Woodlands (16-2) junior goaltender made 10 saves and along with the Highlander defense was a virtual wall all afternoon. Junior attackman Ben Perry scored two goals to lead the offense on a day where The Woodlands was clicking on all cylinders against the Rangers who are an annual powerhouse coached by former NCAA Championship goalie, Chris Surran.

Thorpe was justifiably excited after the game.

"It all just came together for our team today. This is very gratifying because we work hard on and off the field. Off the field because the coaches have us constantly studying scouting reports and watching game film. To be honest, it all seemed like overkill but it sure paid off for us today."

AJ continued, "My dad has been so supportive of me and where I thought he had been being a little over-critical in the past, this season he has been a glass is half full dad which has made a huge difference to me."

The win propelled The Woodlands into the Final Four for the second year in a row which is a first for the 18 year old organization. Also advancing to the Final 4 is Dallas Highland Park (10-2), Episcopal School of Dallas (13-1) and Allen High School (14-4), a suburb of Dallas.

The Woodlands coach, Keith Tintle elaborated on the Highlander victory...

"You know, we felt we were prepared to go to battle but we couldn't gauge if we were going to show up and play the way we are capable of playing. This is a young team and the way kids are nowadays, Knute Rockne speeches don't work. You just have to make sure they have all the information on the opponent as humanly possibly and then pray the players show up. But wow, they showed up and executed big time and played like a team. Myself and the other coaches were so proud and happy for them."

Tintle continued, "AJ played the game of his life today. His position and instincts were spot on and he engineered the clear successfully every time. He's a big ROTC guy so we call him "The Colonel". Well, he played like a Five Star General today."

Tyler Billig, Gus Pinsoneault, Brentley Kalata, Quinn Binney and Ramsey McCreary all contributed a goal while Connor Binney added an assist and three ground balls. Freshman Jackson Shearer gobbled up six ground balls to lead that category.

Face-off specialist, freshman Nate Drickamer won three of four in the face-off circle.

The THSLL Final 4 will be played at Round Rock Dragon Stadium in Austin on May 9 and 10. In the semi-finals, Highland Park (#2) plays Allen (#4) at 2pm and The Woodlands (#3)plays ESD (#1) at 4pm. The winner plays for all the marbles on Sunday at 1pm.
