THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Nick Rauchle and The Woodlands high school (9-2, 7-0) lacrosse team took down South District foe, Kingwood 14-6 Thursday night gaining sole possession of first place in the race for the all important THSLL playoff bye awarded to the top team in each district.

Rauchle, a sophomore lit the lamp three times and dished out an assist leading a balanced Highlander scoring attack that saw seven players find the net.

Kingwood (8-4, 7-1) came into the game with high hopes of unseating the annual South District power. If you judge by common opponents, Kingwood was going to be a handful as they defeated a strong Kinkaid squad 10-4 while the Highlanders barely slipped by the Falcons 9-8.

However, it was not to be for the Mustangs as they caught The Woodlands on a night where their offense and defense was clicking on all cylinders. Defensive Coordinator, Al Christopher talked about the game...

"After a disastrous weekend in Dallas (losses to Highland Park and Southlake), I was really nervous about our biggest district game. We had two really good up tempo practices and put it all together tonight." Christopher continued, "For a young squad we are just trying to get better every day. When sophomore defenseman Grant Murphy scored his second goal it really pumped the team up and took the wind out of Kingwood's sails. Kingwood is a good team and we will probably face them again in the city championship."

Murphy, Gus Pinsoneault, Brentley Kalata, Ben Perry, and Ramsey McCreary all tallied twice and Tyler Billig scored one.

The Highlanders played another district game Tuesday night manhandling Clear Lake (2-6-1-3), 17-3. Pinsoneault had four goals and two assists. Rauchle had three and two while Perry had 3 and 1.

The Highlanders next play Memorial high school Friday night at The Woodlands high school as the team will honor its four seniors, Gus Pinsoneault, Ryan Billig, Luke Montes and Riley Spradlin.
