Conroe ISD Campus Updates: March 3 - March 14

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The following are campus updates for Conroe ISD schools for March 3 - March 14.

Birnham Woods Elementary School

A big thank you goes out to all of the wonderful companies that donated food to our annual Pastries for Parents. Thank you to Walmart, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Chick Fil A and Another Broken Egg. Your generosity was greatly appreciated by all!

Third Graders will be taking their math benchmark on Wednesday, March 5.

Fourth Grade Talent Show interest forms are due no later than Wednesday, March 5 – no exceptions.

Second Graders will be taking their math benchmark on Thursday, March 6. In addition, there will be a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting held at 10:30 a.m. and the Spring Fling parent volunteer meeting held at 3:15 p.m.

Monday, March 10 will mark the first day of Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, March 17. We wish a safe and relaxing week to all of our Bulldog Families!!

Buckalew Elementary School

First grade Art Night is Thursday, March 6, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the gym. Parents and their first grade students are encouraged to come and enjoy various art activities!

First grade Rodeo Day will take place on Friday, March 7. There will be lots of fun rodeo activities - don't forget your western wear!

Congratulations to the following students who received a “Principal's Award” medallion for demonstrating our Keys to Success: Carlos Calderon, Gavin Garcia, Elle Funkhouser, Justin Kelly, Sydnie Loveridge, Jack Miller, Audrey Lowell, Sam Nielsen, Emma Voinea, and Macy Roberts.

Bush Elementary School

Congratulations to the following students for receiving the Humanitarians Award for the month of January: Skylar Herring, Tyler Krueger, Logan Paull, Genevieve Maddox, and Jinesh Jain.

Fourth graders from class 406, 407, & 408 will go on their field trip to the Sam Houston memorial in Huntsville on Wednesday, March 5. Classes 402, 403, 404, & 405 will go on Thursday, March 6.

Friday, March 7 will be Go Texan Day and Kindergarten Rodeo. Kindergarten will have their annual rodeo festivities outside and all students will be allowed to wear western attire that day to school.

Collins Intermediate School

Collins Choir is proud of our CISD Honor Choir students. Collins had 8 students who auditioned for and made the CISD Honor Choir. They are: Jimmy Harvin, Lexie Isom, Abby Onofrio, Tamara Ozol, Emmie Sumrall, Kristienne Tenido, Sarah Wright and Sophia Wright. Congratulations to these very talented singers! They will represent the Collins Choir at the CISD Intermediate Honor Choir Concert on Saturday, March 29.

PTO Meeting, Monday, March 3rd at 1:15 p.m.

Cox Intermediate School

Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Ms. Bennett's Team finished in sixth place: Zeke Cullivan, Ricky Do, Caitlin Dulay, Maddy Harper, Ezra Rosado, Mac Sandel and Evan Sellers. Mr. Ashford Wright's Team: Alyssa Duke, Austin Crabtree, Jonathan Austin, Kayla Sarrach, Rachel Sloat, Trinity Stanley and Desire Witkowski. Mrs. Humhpries Team finished in sixth place: Alyssa Lemos, Ivanna Abi-Saab, Alissa Boxlietner and Brianna Parker. Ms. Clemon's Team: Bethany Groenemann, Collin Hughes, Madelyn Stewart, Carter Robinson, Adrian Clemons, Kayla Clemons and Kenzie Clemons. Ms. Reel's Team finished in fourth place: Rhiana Hasenbein, Canaan Milner, Pari Prasad, Ashely Reel and Talia Villanueva. Ms. Hollins' Team: Katelynn Armstrong, Ravyn Hollins, Alexandra Singleton and Rachel Sowa. Mr. Brandon Wright's Team finished in sixth place: Kaden Patrick, Connor Baughman, Andrew Crosier, Kaden Holt, Trae LeBlanc, Kyle Ruiz and Chrisitan Valle. Mrs. Robinson's Team finished in fifth place: Tiffany Amaya, McKenna Emmott, Britanie Farmer, Emily Lyons, Markel Petty, Zoe Walker and Lauren Whatley. Ms. Vickery's Team: Lucas Abuan, Katie Armstrong, Kristiane Guerra, Jackson Happ, Madison Pigman, Noah Sterenberg and Colby Vickery. David Elementary School

The Second Grade Program, "Surfin' into Spring Break," will be held on Thursday, March 6. We will have an afternoon performance at 2 p.m. and an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. An open house for parents will be held immediately following the evening performance.

Students and staff will celebrate "Go Texan Day," on Friday March 7. Come dressed in your Texas attire.

Deretchin K-6 School

Grades fourth thru sixth will experience quite the library visit on March 7 when Gordon Korman comes to visit Deretchin!

Our annual Kindergarten program and rodeo will be held on March 7 at 8:30 a.m. We hope to see you for this very exciting event.

Spring Break is from March 10-14. Enjoy your time with your families.

Ford Elementary School

March 3 will be our Read Across America Day celebration. Students are encouraged to wear their pajamas to school that day and bring their favorite books and blankets to “curl up” and read in class. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, students will also enjoy guest readers with lots of Dr. Seuss stories and other fun activities.

Kindergarten classes will take a field trip to Old McDonald's Farm on March 6.

Go Texan Day at Ford will be celebrated on March 7. Wear your cowboy duds that day!

March 10-14 is Spring Break. Enjoy your week off!

Galatas Elementary School

Spring individual pictures and class group pictures will be taken on March 6.

Third grade students will present “Glimpses of Greatness” on March 7 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Students will present the accomplishments and contributions that individuals in our history and present day life have achieved.

The fourth grade choir program will be held on March 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Glen Loch Elementary School

The next Gator Coin Party will be held on Friday March 7.

The Chick-Fil-A luncheon on Friday March 7 will be held for students who are selected for displaying the monthly character trait of courtesy.

Calling all Glen Loch Alumni to buy a brick and be a part of the school history forever! The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as an ongoing fund raiser.

Please continue to drop off your plastic shopping bags for our recycling collection. Plastic bag recycling bins are located just inside the front doors.

Hailey Elementary School

Wednesday, March 5 will be math benchmark testing day for grades third and fourth, resulting in an alternate lunch schedule for grades second, third, and fourth. Fourth grade students will not be allowed to eat with visitors on this day. Lunches delivered to the front office will be delivered to fourth grade students in their classrooms this day.

Thursday, March 6 will be math benchmark testing day for grade 2. The lunch schedule this day is normal with no changes campus-wide.

Thursday, March 6 is Hailey Spirit Store day. Spirit sticks and other items will be for sale on the cafeteria stage during all lunch periods.

The Parent Teacher Association will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, March 6, at 6 p.m. in the school library.

Many activities are slated for Friday, March 7, including Go Texan day. Students are encouraged to wear western apparel to school on this day, but please leave horses and guns at home, and remember tennis shoes for P.E. and recess. Third grade classes will enjoy their annual Chili Cook-off on this day.

Also Friday, March 7 is the school spelling bee, which will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the school library. A student is selected from each second, third, and fourth grade classroom to participate in the spelling bee. Friday afternoon, students will experience Camp Write-a-Lot, featuring classroom activities school-wide aimed at creative and expressive writing.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Hailey's annual spring carnival is fast approaching. The date is Friday, March 28 at 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Schools will be closed Monday–Friday, March 10-14, for spring break.

Houser Elementary School

First grade will be traveling to Old McDonald's Farm for their annual field trip on March 4.

"Pennies for Patients" campaign benefiting cancer research will end on March7. Thank you to all of the students and parents for donating your lose change for this wonderful cause.

Spring Break will be from March 10 through 14. Enjoy your time off everyone!

Irons Junior High School

Irons Junior High hosted the February Student of the Month breakfast in the Myrna Wise Irons Reading Corner of the school library on February 28. The February Students of the Month were chosen by a team of their core teachers and recognized in a reception with a Chick Fil A Breakfast (provided by the PTO). Students also received a certificate, a "Got Game" T-shirt, and a "Sit where you want at lunch" pass. The following students were recognized: Stephanie Ramos, Kevin Skweres, Brianna Solares, Cynthia Martinez, Elena Adams, Danyon Decker, Kerryn Bennett, Stephanie Huesca, Cristian Calix and Frida Rodriguez. Also, a special Honorable Mention from the Nurse goes to Garrison Campos.

Kaufman Elementary School

On Wednesday, March 5, second grade will be visiting the Houston Zoo.

Fourth graders will be taking their middle of the year Math benchmark test.

Thursday, March 6, first grade will be performing their music program, “3 of a Kind” at 6:30 p.m. for parents and community members.

Friday, March 7, kindergarten will be celebrating Rodeo Day. Students will be eating chili, gathering around the campfire for stories and having lots of fun doing stick horse races.

Lamar Elementary School

Our First Grade Program is March 6 at 6 p.m.

Spring break is March 10-14!

McCullough Junior High School

The McCullough Charity League just completed their change drive fundraiser for the Make a Wish Foundation. Anna King, a homebound McCullough student, came and spoke to the students about her wish and what it means to the children facing such medical issues. She was able to have her wish fulfilled recently. She described her experience while talking to the students. On average, it costs $6,000 to make a child's wish come true. The McCullough Charity League wanted to help other local children achieve their dream in honor of our own Highlander, Anna King. The League has raised nearly $800 so far. The Charity League will be selling lollypops during advisory for .50 each. Proceeds from this sale will also go to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Mitchell Intermediate School

The Parent Teacher Organization will hold their next monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m.

The students in fifth grade will go on a field trip this spring, sponsored by the PTO, to the Spring Creek Nature Center. LC 5 will go on Wednesday, March 5 and LC 6 will go on Thursday, March 6.

Renowned author, Gorman Korman, will visit the school on Friday, March 7 and speak to the students. Sixth grade will attend the assembly at 9 a.m. and fifth grade at 10 a.m.

Registration has now begun for the Seventh Annual Mitchell Paint the Path Pink Walk and Run in support of Breast Cancer research and funding for those with Breast Cancer. The event will take place on Saturday, March 22 at 9 a.m. on the Mitchell campus.

Oak Ridge Elementary School

On Thursday, March 6, Oak Ridge Elementary's Parent Teacher Organization will be hosting a Spirit Night at Spring Creek Barbeque in Shenandoah. Students and their family can dine-in or take-out from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and 20% of the restaurant's earnings will go to the school PTO. Oak Ridge Elementary teachers will also be serving rolls and visiting with diners.

Oak Ridge High School

Congratulations to the following ninth grade students: Lorenzo Abuan, Nathan Cozma, Xhoja Joseph, Jack Meyer and Kathryn Wheelwright who have been formally accepted into the Accelerated College Program. They will be taking college classes at Lone Star College and will be able to earn their Associates Degree by the time they graduate from High School!

On Saturday, February 15 Oak Ridge High School students competed in the 2014 regional Visual Art Scholastic Event or VASE; artwork from 722 students from Region VI were rated by judges sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association. Forty eight Oak Ridge students were awarded medals for top scores of “4”. Only forty five artworks were selected to progress to State VASE which will be held on April 5, 2014 at Bryan High School. Of these forty five artworks, six were chosen from Oak Ridge art students to compete at State VASE. Congratulations to: Carly Flores, Riley Deloof (2 artworks), Samantha Mayhew, Emma Krakoski and Viktorija Kasirovaite.

Peet Junior High School

Cheerleading tryout clinic will be held March 3-5 from 4:45 – 6:45 p.m. in the big gym. Attendance is mandatory for anyone trying out for cheerleading. Cheerleading tryout day is March 6. It starts at 5 p.m. sharp.

Students will compete in a track meet at Conroe HS – Moorhead Stadium Thursday, March 6 at 4 p.m.

Powell Elementary School

Congratulations to Angela Garrett (third grade) our Teacher of the Year for 2014. Cleo Mendez (custodial) our Humanitarian and Jennifer Brunk; our Friend of Powell. Thank you for all you do!

First and second graders will be attending a play performance at College Park High School at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 6.

Powell celebrates "GO TEXAN DAY" on Friday, March 7.

The Parent Teacher Organization Spirit Store will be open at 7:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. on Friday, March 7. Come by and browse.

Two third grade classes will be chosen to perform at TWHS pep rally on Friday, March 7. They will be doing their PE Halftime Performance.

Kindergarten is having Rodeo Day on Friday, March 7.

The Parent Teacher Organization will be having Popcorn Day on Friday, March 7. All students will enjoy freshly popped popcorn!

The Woodlands High School

The University of Texas at Austin is coming on Wednesday, March 5 to meet with juniors. Your junior must be registered on Family Connection for this visit to attend the meeting. Texas State University and Texas Tech University have also scheduled visits for juniors in the next two weeks.

The cheerleaders will host their annual banquet next Monday night at Woodlands Church. The coaches would like to thank all of the young ladies and the mascot for their hard work, spirit, and dedication throughout the year. As one season ends, another begins. The 2014/2015 cheerleader and mascot tryouts will be held the week of March 3.

The Woodlands 9th Grade High School

Purple Out! Wednesday, March 5 at The Woodlands High School Ninth Grade Campus. Project Purple is an initiative of The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation established by former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, that assists individuals and families struggling with addiction. Project Purple was launched to break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and shed light on effective treatment practices. Standing Up. Standing Together. Go Project Purple.

Wilkerson Intermediate School

Congratulations to all our Destination Imagination students! Wilkerson proudly brought home First, second, third and sixth place honors! Placing first was M.I.T. (Man in Technology). Members are Rithvik Asani, Prerit Choudhary, Reed Hedderman, Cody Johnson, Ansh Mittra, and Arman Sharma. The second place team was F.I.B.I.T. (Futuristic Imaginative roBotic Investigation Team). Members are Rheanna Caron, Alex Chamberlain, Chris Chamberlain and Talal Rashid. From Another Dimension took third place. Members are Maggie Collette, Mikayla Cox, Lia Hooper, Tegan Kennedy, Megan Kwatra, Miranda Marquez and Rachel Marquez. Sixth place went to Luck of D'Irish members Emily Ashley, Zoe Marquez, Priscilla Martinez, Cole Mitchell and Gabby Solomon.

The following students have been selected for YAM, which stands for Youth Art Month. Their artwork will be on display at the Public Library located at 2101 Lake Robbins in The Woodlands. Chosen from Mrs. Mowad's classes are Benny Shi, Maria Miguel San Jose, Aidan Chowdhury, and Shawntei Fejeran. Tyler Traylor, Lauren Sanders, Zachary Mills, and Chloe Robbins have been selected from Mrs. Graham's classes. Congratulations to all these students!
