Cooper splits SPC openers
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The John Cooper School baseball team is home after opening Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) play last week. The Dragons host Northland Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday before entertaining the Northside Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Dragons (14-6-2, 1-1) split a pair of SPC South Zone openers, falling 13-0 to Andrews Episcopal before blanking St. Stephens, 9-0.
Brandon Wohlfarth pitched seven scoreless innings last week, giving up just four hits while striking out five. He did not walk a batter. Wohlfarth worked two innings early last week in a 5-3 win over the Thunder before pitching all five innings of the run-rule win over St. Stephen’s.
Nicholas Beaty and Cross Austin continued to swing hot bats for the Dragons.
Beaty went 5-for-8 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. He also added a triple and walked twice, hitting from the lead-off spot in coach Brent Landrum’s lineup.
Austin delivered four hits in seven trips to the plate, including two doubles and two RBIs. It was a fine follow up from a 7-for-13 showing at the Florida trip the previous week.
Cooper also claimed an 8-5 win over the Houston Power. Beaty delivered three hits and Austin two more to highlight the Dragons’ 10-hit attack. The two also led the way on the mound with Beaty throwing the first five innings (six strikeouts) to pick up the win and Austin following with 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief.
Jake Seefeldt recorded the final out on the hill for Cooper.
