THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Rubber Manufacturers Association designated June 1 to 7 as the 13th annual National Tire Safety Week. During Tire Safety Week, Milstead Automotive of Spring wants to educate motorists about the importance of proper tire care by offering free visual tire inspections and air pressure checks.

“Tires are so much more than just round, black rubber,” said Amy Milstead, president of Milstead Automotive. “As a result, many drivers fail to realize how important proper tire maintenance is.”

Milstead Automotive Service Manager Mark Orsack added, “Regular, proper tire maintenance is critical for improved fuel efficiency, maximized tread life and a safer driving experience.” Orsack reminds drivers that there are four important tire care tips that all drivers should remember year-round and not just during Tire Safety Week.

1. Refer to your Owner’s Manual or look on your driver’s side door to determine the correct tire pressure for your vehicle.

2. Invest in a tire pressure gauge to keep in your car.

3. Rotate your tires every 6,000 miles.

4. Do not overinflate your tires.

Also, every tire’s sidewall contains unique information on it, Orsack added. Drivers can find the tire specifications, which describe the specific characteristics of the tire, such as size and rating; the Department of Transportation (DOT) safety code which assures motorists that the tires comply with all DOT safety standards and Uniform Tire Quality Grading (UTQG) which includes information on treadwear, traction and temperature; and letters such as M+S, M/S and M&S. These letters indicate that the tire meets the Rubber Manufacturer’s Association’s standards for mud and snow tires. All-season tires will also carry these letters.

Milstead encourages drivers to come into Milstead Automotive located at 29707 West Hawthorne at Rayford Road in Spring during Tire Safety Week, Monday through Friday from 7 am to 6 pm or on Saturday from 7 am until noon. No appointment is necessary and service technicians will be available to perform free visual inspections of tires as well as a tire pressure check, free of charge.

Milstead Automotive also hosts numerous community events throughout the year and upcoming events are: Blood Drive June 27, Lipsticks & Dipsticks Car Care Clinic September 11, Walk Like MADD October 4 and the Milstead Fall Car Classic on October 11.
