MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - The Montgomery County 2015 Road Bond Committee is wrapping up work on a proposed list of projects and recommended price tag for a road bond issue that will be put to voters in May 2015, the group's co-chairman said.

While the group originally had hoped to conclude work by early February, committee members have a few more details to work through and will be finished before the end of the month, said co-chairman Nelda Luce Blair.

Final action will come in the form of a vote by Commissioners Court to call a road bond election. That vote currently is planned for the Feb. 23 meeting of Commissioners Court, so the committee will have a plan ready by that date, Blair said.

"So much growth has occurred all over the County," Blair stated, "and every community has great ideas about what needs to be done to improve congestion and roads to make our daily lives easier. Alongside each of the four commissioner precincts, we continue to work through all those plans to reach a viable bond issuance that voters can get behind.

"While we made much progress by our original goal of early February, we still have work to do to complete the list. So, we are now looking to hit the ground running with public presentations by the end of February. We are very excited to bring the final ideas to the public, and the committee already has a crowded calendar of public presentations."

With a goal of prioritizing a long list of potential road projects that cover the entire County, within a framework of a cost-effective level of bond issuance, the Committee has held both public meetings and working committee meetings in order to present a plan to Commissioners Court.

If voters approve the bond measure in May, these bonds will pay for much needed upgrades to improve roadways and address traffic jams. The Road Bond Committee was organized not only to assist the Commissioners Court in preparing the project list and a road bond formula, but also to educate and inform the public about the process. One tool of the Committee is the Keep Montgomery County Moving PAC, with the goal of advancing mobility in Montgomery County by encouraging voters to pass the road bond issue.

"Public meeting dates and times will be posted on our web site, and we hope people who are tired of traffic congestion will come out to hear what they can do about it," said Blair. "We also hope they will Like us on Facebook at Keep Montgomery County Moving!" The web site is www.KeepMontgomeryCountyMoving.com.
