THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Over a couple of hundred children participated in the Woodlands Kiwanis Club’s 32nd Annual Kids Fishing Tournament Saturday, September 5, from toddlers to 16-year olds. (See video.)

“Our goal for the event is to provide an opportunity where kids, families and friends can have fun and build memories that occur around the sport of fishing,” said tournament director, John Haynes. “This will be the 32nd year for the tournament that was originally started by The Woodlands Bass Club who continues to be involved. In recent years, the tradition has been carried on by The Woodlands Kiwanis Club along with many volunteers.”

The tournament has continued to grow over the years according to Woodlands Kiwanis President, Jacki Bradbury.

"The crowd is bigger this year than last year. I think this is the largest tournament we've ever had," said Bradbury.

Volunteers assisting The Woodlands Kiwanis Club with the annual event included The Woodlands Bass Club, The Woodlands Noon Kiwanis Club, and high school Key Clubs from The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, Wunsche, and Klein Collins.

The ‘Catch of the Day’ was a tie. Mattison Smith and Francisco Franco each caught a fish weighing in at 7.5 pounds, but Franco took first place with the total weight of 15.4 pounds for three fish. Smith caught three fish totaling 12.2 pounds. Cook Kylan took the trophy for the most fish caught, reeling in a total of four fish.
