CONROE, Texas – Say bon voyage to more than 40 puppies flying north to their new homes this Saturday, Feb. 27 from Lone Star Executive Airport. Lone Star College-Montgomery helped charter the flight to Massachusetts and New Hampshire so the dogs can get a second chance for a new life.

LSC-Montgomery students, faculty and staff raised more than $4,000 to remove these canines from area shelters and transport them to the northeast. Many shelters in those areas are in need of adoptable pets, in contrast with some local, overcrowded Texas shelters.

“LSC-Montgomery is helping to significantly reduce the homeless pet overpopulation in our county,” explained Kevin Sumrall, professor of psychology at LSC-Montgomery and coordinator of the fundraising campaign. "Our hope is that LSC-Montgomery serves as a model for other organizations and businesses in our county to step in and help finance more flights.”

The send-off is an unforgettable experience. The dogs will begin boarding the flight at 7 a.m. Participants will see puppies like Harvey, Mona, Norseman, and Riley off to a wonderful new life on board a plane. Each will make a wonderful addition to a family in Massachusetts and New Hampshire! Some like Riley, named after LSC-Montgomery President Dr. Rebecca Riley, are forever linked to the college, if nothing else than by their new names.

This puppy flight is made possible by LSC-Montgomery in cooperation with Operation Pets Alive and Hank’s Flights. Businesses and charities interested in chartering its own puppy flights can contact Sumrall at 936.273.7323 or Kevin.W.Sumrall@lonestar.edu.
