Record-breaking year for Lone Star College-Montgomery enrollment

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Lone Star College-Montgomery has enrolled a record-breaking number of students in the fall 2017 semester.

The 15,914 students enrolled for fall 2017 marks a 10% increase from the 14,411 students enrolled in fall 2016.

“I think the increase is due to multiple factors,” said Dr. Michael Chavez, vice president of student success at LSC-Montgomery. “There is a growing population in this area, LSC-Montgomery has quality instructors, and we offer many diverse courses at times that fit students’ schedules. The student success division is also utilizing analytics to recruit, retain, and graduate students.”

LSC-Montgomery classes and programs are also based on current and growing fields like nursing, biotechnology, land surveying, and live entertainment technology. Advisory boards made up of community professionals guide LSC-Montgomery’s offerings.

“Students and families are finding out what we knew all along, LSC-Montgomery offers one of the best values in college education in Texas and we have extremely high academic standards,” said Dr. Chavez. “All 15,914 students in this incoming class are impressive, and we are looking forward to another exciting year of academic achievement.”

LSC-Montgomery is now the second largest Lone Star College campus behind Lone Star College-CyFair. The Lone Star College System now has a total student population of nearly 99,000 students, when including non-credit workforce and community education students, making it the second largest community college in the nation.

As enrollment grows, so has the number of LSC-Montgomery students persevering and receiving certificates and degrees. From 2013-14 to 2016-17 there has been a 63% increase in certificates and degrees granted to students.
