Christ Community School in The Woodlands restructures leadership

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Christ Community School (CCS), established in The Woodlands in 1996, is embarking upon a new marketing direction and has shifted administration and leadership. The private Christian school serves children 3 years of age through 6th grade and is currently in a period of open enrollment for the 2018-19 school year.

Former Assistant Principal, Sonya Thelen, was promoted to Head of School effective March 8, 2018. The Board of Directors has also hired former General Manager for Community Impact Newspaper – Conroe/Montgomery, Meredith Brown, as Director of Advancement. Alyssa Smith, former music instructor for CCS, will be serving as the school’s full time Admissions Coordinator.

Susan Summers, Director of Constituent Engagement, Lone Star College Foundation and serves on the CCS board of directors, noted, “Our Board of Directors felt that it was time for CCS to restructure so that we can reach even more students and deepen community outreach efforts. We feel confident these changes will have a positive impact on how we're able, as a school, to continue to fulfill our mission"

Sonya Thelen has served as Assistant Principal since June 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Texas A&M and a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of St. Thomas. Thelen has worked on curriculum development and implementation in several area school districts, including Spring Branch ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and Magnolia ISD, and has developed staff and faculty trainings for both public and private schools. She currently lives in Magnolia with her four children and serves on the LifePath advisory board at Lone Star College-Tomball, is member of the Montgomery County Citizens Police Academy, and is an active member of Stonebridge Church.

Meredith Brown, Director of Advancement, comes to CCS from Community Impact Newspaper, where she served as General Manager of the Conroe/Montgomery edition since 2014. Brown formerly served as the Events & Marketing Manager for the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the Executive Committee on the Board of Directors for the Conroe/Lake Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce and was a 2016 graduate of Leadership Montgomery County and is also a 2014 graduate of Leadership North Houston. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from N.C. State University, lives in Spring with her three children and is an active member of Woodlands Church.

Alyssa Smith has been a member of the Christ Community School staff since February 2017 serving as the music and drama instructor. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors of Music degree with an emphasis on education. Upon graduation, she returned to her hometown of The Woodlands to teach music. Currently, Alyssa works with a local nonprofit theater company Class Act Productions, owns her own small business, and is an active member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, where she is one of the children's choir instructors. Alyssa resides in Spring with her husband J.R.
