Red, Hot & Boom: Celebrate 4th of July in The Woodlands with Fireworks, Music & Family Fun!

THE WOODLANDS, TX – We’re in the middle of the week celebrating the birth of our nation 249 years ago, and already the celebrations are mounting – just wait until next year when we celebrate the big 2-5-0, also known as the semiquincentennial, sestercentennial, or bisesquicentennial, your pick.
The 4th of July marks the day in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress (although the actual signatures, starting with John Hancock’s, didn’t in reality start until the next month) and the United States became the first colony to break from its mother country.
In one of those strange coincidences that fall under “too weird to be true but it is,” two of the three men who led the committee to draft the Declaration – frenemies John Adams and Thomas Jefferson – both died on the same date, July 4, fifty years to the day from their adoption of the document, only hours apart. Adams’ last words – “Jefferson lives” – were unfortunately off the mark, and he ended up having the last word in their long relationship of highs and lows.
While many of us were alive and sentient during the 200th anniversary of the nation in 1976, few celebrations before or since then have truly stood out. The Bicentennial brought songs, special coin sets, a special version of the two-dollar bill, and parades galore. While one can hope for a nationwide rave during next year’s round number celebration, one can only hope to still be alive to observe the Tricentennial in style.
For this year’s celebration, however, there is plenty to do to mark the occasion. Woodlands Online wants to take the opportunity to remind you that personal fireworks are forbidden within the Township boundaries, so be sure to find your legitimate neighborhood and a route to get there once you hit the fireworks stands throughout the area.
(True, The Woodlands can’t make a law and so fireworks are listed as ‘forbidden’ rather than ‘illegal,’ but their use is comparable to a Class B Misdemeanor, and the Township Covenant review board would definitely take infractions seriously, so this is one date you don’t want to take.)
Additionally, a special task force of local law enforcement is already out and about en masse to catch speeders, red-light runners, and those driving under the influence. While we might not have a Yellow Cab taxi fleet per se, it’s not too late to book yourself a chauffeured ride at one of our local services; you can check them out here.
As our third and final word of caution, enjoy the weather over the holiday but be sure you’re protected from it. Surprisingly, it will be moderate the entire holiday period, but each day the humidity is adding about ten degrees to the normal high, and that’s a recipe for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. You can check out our extended holiday weather forecast here.
With all that being said, here are some particularly fun and fine Independence Week events to partake in:
