MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Lone Star College Leadership High school (LHS) is a leadership development and diversity awareness program for outstanding sophomore and junior high school leaders in the LSC service area.

“Students who take part in this exciting program will be taught important leadership skills which they can use for the rest of their lives,” said Kay Fitzsimons, LSC Community Leadership and Engagement executive director. “It can also help enhance their college applications to demonstrate work outside the conventional classroom.”

LHS is currently accepting applications. Students and parents interested in learning more or applying can visit LoneStar.edu/Leadership-HighSchool. This program is offered at no cost and the deadline to apply is Sept.21.

LHS, which is sponsored by Leadership North Houston and Lone Star College, offers a curriculum that allows students to recognize and develop personal leadership skills and abilities and learn how to initiate positive change in the community.

The program begins with an orientation and leadership skills retreat in October followed by intensive, day-long monthly sessions concluding in April. These sessions offer students the opportunity to network with community leaders from various backgrounds and industries.

The program also focuses on peer-to-peer learning how to work effectively in a team environment during a community service project.

“We want our students to understand the role leaders have in the community and the importance of making personal community service contributions,” said Fitzsimons. “We also want them to understand the need for positive student leaders in the community.”
