MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Montgomery County students in K-8th grade from 44 schools in Montgomery County designed and submitted bookmark size art for the 2017 Conflict Resolution Day Bookmark Art Contest.

The artwork depicts creative ways to resolve conflicts peacefully and/or say “no” to bullies. The Conroe Art League with assistance from two of their artists, Alice Runkle and Jamie Hatfield, produced 3D collages using the 1,927 bookmarks.

The 3D Bookmark Collages will be displayed at The Woodlands Arts Council Spotlight on the Arts Gallery in The Woodlands Mall (2nd floor near the Food Court) on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. All Montgomery County students, teachers and family members of contest participants are invited to attend and witness the unveiling of the Student Collaborative Project.

Light refreshments will be served for the unveiling. One of the 3D collages will remain at The WAC Spotlight on the Arts Gallery for at least the next six months and the second collage will be displayed in another public setting to be announced at the unveiling.

“The DRC-MC would like to thank the 2017 Conflict Resolution Day Bookmark Art Contest participants, the Conroe Art League and The Woodlands Arts Council for showing the citizens of Montgomery County 1,927 ways to resolve conflicts peacefully and say “no” to bullies,” said Elaine Roberts, Director of Dispute Resolution Center of Montgomery County, Inc.

The bookmark art was judged based on their creativity and message. Judges included members of various organizations, including The Woodlands Arts Council, the Conroe Art League, Montgomery County Bar Association, Woodlands Bar Association and volunteer mediators with the Dispute Resolution Center of Montgomery County, Inc

Six of the winning bookmarks were then reproduced into 16,000 laminated bookmarks which were distributed at libraries, schools and public buildings throughout Montgomery County.

Celebrating 30 years in the community, the DRC-MC’s 5th Annual Conflict Resolution Day Bookmark Art Contest is currently underway and entries must be received by the DRC-MC by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018.
