THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Martha Turner Sotheby International Realty, The Woodlands office will be sponsoring “A Winter Carnival” on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at StoneBridge Church in The Woodlands. The family fun event benefits the Will Herndon Research Fund, a Woodlands based non-profit organization that raises money to fund research to find a treatment, and one day, a cure for juvenile Batten disease. Event sponsors and underwriters include Waste Connections, Backyard Oasis, Stewart Title, Capital Title, First United Mortgage, Goosehead Insurance and Blind & Shutter Designs. The event is being organized by Martha Turner Sotheby’s team of agents. Spearheading the event are long time HOPE supporters, agents Arlene English and Kecia Haseman. Will Herndon, 15, was diagnosed with juvenile Batten disease at the age of 6 in 2009. Juvenile Batten disease is a rare, degenerative brain disease that affects children at a young age with vision loss and seizures. The progression of the disease leads to loss of mobility and cognitive loss, and ultimately, death in the late teen’s and early 20’s. HOPE, The Will Herndon Research Fund, was founded by Missy and Wayne Herndon, Will’s parents, in an effort to save their oldest son. Since HOPE’s inception in 2009, the fund has raised over $7.2 million dollars locally and through collaborative efforts, is working on funding a drug discovery that will slow the progression of Batten disease. “We are so grateful to live in a community that has taken on our cause and continues to fights alongside of us to save Will,” states Missy Herndon. “Events like the Winter Carnival not only help us raise much needed funds to get the drug discovery to clinical trial but helps us to continue to raise awareness and share Will’s story.”

The Winter Carnival is for children of all ages. Ticket sales for activities and food will benefit the fund. Event sponsorships are available.
