YMCA of Greater Houston Announces Fall Programming to Help Youth and Families Stay Connected and Engaged
HOUSTON, TX -- As the school year gets underway, the YMCA of Greater Houston is providing a range of fall programs for children and families to stay active, engaged and connected. Through youth sports, enrichment activities, childcare, swimming and adaptive programs, families will find opportunities that support learning, healthy development and a sense of belonging.
“We want every child to be able to explore their interests, discover their potential, and build meaningful connections,” said Stephen Ives, president and CEO, YMCA of Greater Houston. “Our fall programs give children and families welcoming spaces to learn and grow, building confidence and skills that they can carry with them throughout the year and into their lives.”
With programs offered at locations across the Greater Houston area, families can find activities that fit their schedules and interests. Fall programming includes:
- Early Care and After School Childcare: For families looking for support before and after the school day, YMCA programs combine care with opportunities to learn, play and connect. Early Care serves children from six weeks through five years with age-appropriate experiences that support cognitive, social, physical and emotional development. After School Care serves more than 4,000 children at approximately 160 sites across school districts and charter schools in the Houston area, with activities including homework help, academic enrichment, indoor and outdoor play, and lessons in empathy, inclusion and service learning.
- Youth sports: Children ages three and older learn fundamentals, practice teamwork and stay active. Seasonal offerings include Houston Texans NFL Flag Football, soccer, volleyball, baseball and basketball, with programs designed to build skills, communication and sportsmanship.
- Swim Programs: Year-round swim lessons help participants of all ages and skill levels become safer and more confident in the water. Options include parent and child, preschool, school-age, teen and adult, adaptive and private lessons.
- Enrichment Programs: Diverse activities include tumbling and dance lessons that build movement and agility, martial arts that foster discipline and self-confidence and performing arts that encourage creativity. Robotics and STEM lessons help children strengthen problem-solving skills, academic support and homeschool PE are available beyond the classroom for those who need it. Together, these enrichment programs create opportunities for kids to expand their interests and gain new skills.
- Adaptive programs: Various opportunities are offered to children and adults with disabilities to participate in sports and learning activities in safe, fun environments. Seasonal offerings include Miracle League Baseball, basketball, swimming and soccer, with trained staff supporting participants as they develop skills and enjoy time with friends.
- Y Teen L.I.F.E. (Leadership, Inspiration, Fellowship and Education): Middle and high school students build friendships, set goals, serve their communities and strengthen their voices through a club-based model centered on youth engagement and leadership.
Families are encouraged to explore programs that fit their children’s interests, ages and schedules. Financial assistance is available to help make membership and select programs more accessible based on household income and individual circumstances, ensuring accessibility for all. The YMCA of Greater Houston is dedicated to helping all ages connect with others and find a place to belong.
