Miles for Meals Exceeds Goals with a new PR
CONROE, Texas -- It was a cold, fierce morning when 700 registered participants commenced their 3.1mile race, walk, and escorted their dogs in the 3rd Annual Miles for Meals 5K Walk and Run presented by Kevin Baker Home and Real Estate. The event raised enough to provide meals for a year for 37 local homebound seniors.
Kevin Baker is a runner himself and came in 3rd in his age group and 6th overall with a time of 16.52.
“You get involved in things that matter most to you. I felt good, had a solid pace, and I love seeing all the support from my friends in the community”, said Kevin Baker, presenting sponsor of Miles for Meals.
The weather warmed up to 42 degrees but felt like 36 degrees. Firepits and heaters warmed up the crowd eagerly awaiting the finishers. The course winded course winded through neighborhoods in Conroe starting and finishing at the six-acre wooded biergarten of B-52 Brewing Company, a craft beer venue with food trucks serving before and after the race. Finishers received a tee shirt, finishers medal, a signature pint mug glass and 2 free B-52 craft beers (or lemonade).
“The community’s support of helping feed local, homebound seniors is more than we could ever imagine. People showing up at B-52 Brewery on a chilly morning to volunteer or to run and then enjoying beers with friends – it’s the perfect Saturday!”, said Carrie Hyman, Community Relations Manager.

Kevin Bedell Magnolia ISD Navy JROTC leader provided a good example to the 10 JROTC students he brought to the race by taking 2nd in his age group with a time of 20.38. His students swept the girls 15-19 age group and the boys took 2nd and 3rd in the 15-19 division.
This was a family event with strollers, walkers, dogs and Ainsley’s Angels, a group dedicated to including the special needs community. Stronger to Serve, a local nonprofit, assisted the Ainsley’s Angels to push beyond the finish line.
“This is one of our most favorite events of the year”, said Teri Schmidt, Executive Director. “It's a natural fit with Stronger to Serve's mission of inspiring kids to develop into strong, compassionate leaders, we love supporting seniors in our community, and you can't beat the venue (and post-race refreshments)! We can't wait to partner with Meals on Wheels and other local nonprofits during our Amazing Kindness Race on March 23rd.”
