MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX - Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack’s office partnered with Paradigm Traffic and Applied Information to create and design a new high-water detection system for South Montgomery County roads.

The system is designed to alert first responders of rising water during flooding or flash flood events. It is supported with radar sensors and cameras to notify public safety of rapidly rising water in real time. It operates off of a solar panel and a cell modem to maintain communication during disasters. The system can measure water over roads as well as current water levels of streams and creeks.

The system will provide faster public notifications to affected areas and allow for a quicker response time for emergency responders. To notify emergency personnel, the sensor measures current water levels; and once a defined threshold is crossed, it sends emails to the appropriate agencies.

It can be installed as a standalone unit, attached to bridges or signal mast arms over the intersection. It integrates directly with the Montgomery County Northstar Advanced Transportation, which will operate and maintain the system once it is successfully tested.
