THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Both Oak Ridge and The Woodlands cruised to wins over their Bi-district opponents over the weekend. The War Eagles eliminated Westfield 12-1 and the Highlanders beat MacArthur 11-1.

For Oak Ridge, a big seventh inning removed any chance of a late-game comeback from the Mustangs. The War Eagles reeled off four RBI doubles and one RBI single to add seven runs on the board in the final frame. Carson Ogilvie and Zach Easterling were offensive stars in Saturday’s win. Ogilvie went 3-4 with an RBI, and Easterling picked up two hits on four appearances at the plate, including a home run in the sixth inning. In six innings of work, Logan Letney struck out seven batters and allowed no earned runs. Up next for The Ridge is an Area Round match-up with the Round Rock Dragons.

After storms stalled the game in the first inning on Thursday, The Highlanders resumed playing with a two-run lead Saturday morning. After the Generals picked up a run to start the day, Luke Hammond smacked the first pitch of the second inning over the wall in left field to ignite the explosive Highlander offense. Hammond hit another first-pitch home run in the fifth inning, which gave the Highlanders double-digit runs on the day. Will Swope stepped back on the mound to finish what he started the other night at Scotland Yard. Swope finished with seven strikeouts, allowing just one run on one hit through five innings. Grand Oaks HS will host the Highlanders’ three-game series against Cy-Woods in Round 2. The series will start on Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.
