THE WOODLANDS, TX -- After outlasting Cy-Woods in a thrilling three-game series, the Highlanders will return to Grand Oaks HS for a winner-take-all, one-game series with district foe, Klein. Friday’s game will be the third time that The Woodlands has faced off with the Bearkats, outscoring Klein by a total of 12 runs to 2 in the previous meetings.

Casey Sunseri and Zach Escovedo were prime time players for The Woodlands in their last three games. The pair of infielders each batted .500 with two RBI’s in the series win over Cy-Woods. Sunseri and Escovedo have had success against Klein in the earlier meetings so the combination of a current hot streak and a familiar opponent could lead to another memorable performance.

As the fourth-seed from District 15-6A, Klein will come into this game as an underdog. The key for the Bearkats will be to not fall apart late in games. In both meetings with The Woodlands in 2019, Klein kept the games low-scoring in the early innings. However, both times, The Highlanders broke the game open down the stretch. The Woodlands has shown how dangerous they can be inside the batter’s box, as well as how effortlessly their pitching can keep any lineup off their game. Klein will have to pitch well and avoid a shootout type of game if they want to upset the District 15-6A champions.

The winner of the one-game series will advance to the Regional Semifinal to play the winner of the Allen-Boyd series. The May 17 game at Grand Oaks is currently scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
