SPRING, TX -- In the game preview from earlier this week, the keys for Klein to pull off an upset were to keep the game low-scoring and stay strong down the stretch. The Bearkats did just that and they were still beaten by The Woodlands on Friday, 7-3. So what happened? Extra innings happened.

After a mostly sluggish seven innings from both sides, The Highlanders found a spark thanks to a Casey Sunseri clutch RBI double to take the lead in the top of the eighth. From there, just about everything that could go right for The Woodlands went right. A passed ball, interference, botched fielding, a batter hit-by-pitch, to go along with a sacrifice fly from Will Swope, and singles from Dylan McDowell and PJ Villarreal stretched their lead in extras to four to essentially wrap up another postseason win.

Pitching was a team effort in the Round 3 win for The Woodlands. Starter Will Swope was pulled after two innings for Cody Howard. Howard gave his team three-and-a-third innings and picked up four strikeouts before Cam Caley took over on the mound. Caley K’d seven Bearkats and kept them hitless for the final two innings and change.

The beauty of the postseason is that wins will have to come in many ways to make it all the way to state. Friday night’s game is just another example of why The Highlanders are legitimate title contenders.
