First Choice Emergency Room Teams up With Salvation Army for National Donut Day

IRVING, TX - To celebrate the Salvation Army’s 81st annual National Donut Day, First Choice Emergency Room facilities in the Greater Houston Area will be giving away free donuts and coffee on Friday, June 7 from 7 – 10 a.m. CT.

“Our 102-year-old tradition is still being celebrated across the U.S. thanks to the support from organizations like First Choice Emergency Room,” said Major Kent Davis, The Salvation Army of Greater Houston Area Command. “We are grateful for the support in our efforts to bring awareness to the origin of National Donut Day.”

In 1938 during The Great Depression, The Salvation Army in Chicago started National Donut Day as a fundraiser with a goal to help those in need during the Great Depression. It honors the United States military veterans and commemorates the work of Salvation Army volunteers who used donuts to comfort American soldiers in France and Germany during World War I. Over 80 years later the act of kindness is still celebrated across the U.S.
