THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The John Cooper School . Results from the week of September 2. Football Wins Homecoming Game,Volleyball Sweeps Opponent In Two-Match Series

VARSITY FOOTBALL

9/6 vs Legacy Prep • 53-8 WIN

The Varsity football team continues its winning streak 2-0 with a 53-8 victory over Legacy Prep.

The Dragons offense had 593 yards compared to Legacy Preps 232 yards. The second week in row Dragons had a running clock in the second half.

Coach Erik DeHaven: The team is understanding the standard that we are implementing. We have to play our style of football for four quarters no matter the opponent. The offense line is becoming a real force, allowing us to rush for 300-plus yards.
Next week we have a big test, playing a very solid Bay Area Christian School. This is a team that returns a lot of starters on the offense and made a deep run in TAPPS playoffs last season. They will try to control the clock by rushing four yards at a time, so we must be disciplined in our defensive assignments. Again, I am very proud of our team’s effort this Friday night and it feels great winning your homecoming game.

Players of the Week:

Offensive MVP: Kase Harris • Graded out at 90% on blocking assignments and had 2 pancake blocks

Defensive MVP: Blake Pitts • 8 Total Tackles – 1 sack – 2 Tackles for a loss

Team MVP: Cameron Reed • 10 Total Tackles – 1 sack – 2 Tackles for a loss – 2 Rushing TD’s on offense

Special Team MVP: Jake Peterson • 1 Touchdown – 1 tackle on kickoff

Scout Team Offense: Mehdi Rizvi

Scout Team Defense: Alex Rovirosa

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

9/3 at Incarnate Word • 3-0 WIN

25-13, 25-19, 25-22

Coach Ray Hedden: Last night the team competed in part one of this week’s two-match series with Incarnate Word. We came off a short rest period and played well. It was another great day with total team contribution from everyone. Team captains, AC Adam and Hailey Huettel did a great job performing in their roles on the court, as well as keeping the team focused and engaged. Both were great defensively and at the net, with kills coming at will for them. Junior Amaya Harrell was unstoppable at the net for the Dragons and also performed well from the serving line. Tatum Threadgill had a great game as she keeps improving when her number is called. Laura Weatherford was a team leader in digs (16) and added a pair of aces to the mix. Lauren Wolford dished out the offense in a well-balanced attack contributing 26 assists to the night.

9/5 vs. Incarnate Word • 3-0 WIN

26-24, 25-11, 25-18

Coach Ray Hedden: We played out second match of the week against Incarnate Word, completing the sweep.

We started off sluggish, making a few more errors that we normally do. The team prevailed and went back to Cooper Volleyball and won the first set 26-24. Moving into the second set, we won in dominating fashion with the score at 25-11 when the set ended. Moving into the third and what would be the final set, the girls kept their momentum and finalized the match with 25-18 set win.

Leading the team in Kills were AJ Harrell, AC Adam and Hailey Huettel. Laura Weatherford led the team in passing helping keep the offense in rhythm. Lauren Wolford did a good job dishing out the offense and keeping the other team off balance.

Some other great performances were freshman Rivers Kolesar, sophomore Tatum Threadgill, junior Jenna Braun and freshman Grace Minarovic.

All in all, everyone contributed to the week, so we are proud of how the girls played.
