Raising Resilient Children and Adolescents
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The entire community is invited to come to The Woodlands United Methodist Church to hear guest speaker Dr. Robert Brooks of Harvard Medical School present 'Raising Resilient Children and Adolescents.'
The church is hosting Dr. Brooks as part of The Knowledge series on October 23, 2019 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in The Harvest Worship Center. Dr. Brooks is renowned for the warmth and humor he uses to bring his insights and anecdotes to life. He discusses in practical terms what parents can do to help their children become resilient and deal more effectively with the many challenges they will face. Resilience is seen as a process of parenting that is essential to prepare children for lifelong success. Through his presentations, he describes what parents and other caregivers can do to help raise resilient, caring and self-disciplined children and adolescents.
Dr. Brooks received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Clark University and did additional training at the University of Colorado Medical School. He is on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and has served as Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital. His first position at McLean Hospital was as principal of the school in the locked door unit of the child and adolescent program. He has a part-time private practice in which he sees children, adolescents, adults and families.
He has lectured nationally and internationally to audiences of parents, educators, mental health professionals, and business people on topics pertaining to motivation, resilience, family relationships, leadership and life balance. He has also written extensively about these topics and is the author or co-author of 17 books.
