THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In a significant move toward unified ministry and broad community impact, Covenant Methodist Church and The Woodlands Methodist Church have announced their decision to merge.

The merger comes as part of The Woodlands Methodist Church’s vision for campus and church multiplication. With a track record of successful multisite expansion, including locations in The Woodlands, Woodforest and Montgomery, The Woodlands Methodist Church is in position to extend its reach even further by welcoming Covenant Methodist Church as one of its community-focused campuses.

“We respect the congregation of Covenant and admire all they have accomplished since they were established in 2011,” said the Rev. Mark Sorensen, senior pastor of The Woodlands Methodist Church. “We are thrilled to welcome them into The Woodlands Methodist Church family as we work together in service of a common mission: reaching people for Jesus, discipling them in faith and helping those in need."

Leadership from both churches concluded that a merger would not only enhance their individual ministries but also amplify their collective impact.

“We believe that together we will experience a greater impact than we would individually,” remarked the Rev. Jason Burnham, founding pastor of Covenant. “By joining forces, we can more effectively reach new mission fields, develop emerging leaders, share resources and increase volunteer participation.”

The merger, which will be finalized by early 2025, will enable the combined congregations to streamline administrative processes, share central support services and maximize stewardship of resources. Moreover, it will facilitate enhanced outreach efforts, including multiethnic and Hispanic ministry initiatives.
