THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Methodist Church came together on October 4th and 5th for a special groundbreaking weekend, celebrating the start of construction at both its Montgomery and Woodforest Campuses. The events marked an exciting new chapter in the church’s Beyond capital campaign and a shared vision to expand ministry, deepen service and reach hearts in new ways.

At The Church at Montgomery, members gathered on Saturday evening at the property that will soon be the church’s permanent home at the corner of Clepper and C.B. Stewart Drive. The ceremony included worship, a future-focused message and a celebration of how God is moving in Montgomery. After the ceremony, guests stayed for a fall festival with food, fellowship and family activities. Special guests included Mayor Sara Countryman, who shared remarks with the gathered crowd, and State Rep. Steve Toth.

“The Montgomery campus has been praying over this land and the surrounding community for years,” said Rev. Aaron Laird, Pastor of The Church at Montgomery. “Breaking ground here is a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and an exciting glimpse of the future ministry that will happen on this
property.”

At The Church at Woodforest, the congregation gathered on Sunday morning for one combined worship service in their current space built in 2019 before stepping outside for a groundbreaking ceremony. The expansion project includes an enlarged worship space and a new education building with classrooms for children, students and adults — much-needed space for a growing community. Special guests included church member and State Rep. Will Metcalf.

“God has been moving in incredible ways in Woodforest, and we’ve seen tremendous growth,” said Rev. Brent Parker, Pastor of The Church at Woodforest. “This new chapter will allow us to make more room for worship, discipleship and ministry in our community.”

At both ceremonies, pastors, staff members and community leaders turned spades of dirt, symbolizing the start of construction and offering prayers of blessing for the churches and the lives that will be changed through their ministry.

“These groundbreakings are more than just construction projects,” said Rev. Mark Sorensen, Senior Pastor of The Woodlands Methodist Church. “They are a testimony to God’s faithfulness and to the generosity of our church family. Beyond is not about buildings — it’s about people. It’s about creating spaces where lives will be transformed by the gospel for generations to come.”

The projects are being led in partnership with Cosmati Architects and Brookstone Construction, whose expertise is helping bring the vision of the Beyond campaign to life.Construction at both campuses is scheduled to begin later this year and be completed at the end of 2026. The facilities are designed not only to serve church members but also to open doors of opportunity, belonging and impact across the wider Montgomery County community.
