The Woodlands College Park High School Students Compete for Placement at First Robotics Competition
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The CavBots, a Robotics team at The Woodlands College Park, competed at the March 6th First Robotics Competition in Del Rio, TX. With 26 teams from all over Texas and the surrounding states competing, they were up against challenging opponents and brought home multiple awards and prestigious nominations.
The Woodie Flowers Award celebrates communication and creativity in the art and science of engineering and design. CavBots mentor, Shawn Jordan, has been nominated for this award and is eligible for the Championship Woodie Flowers Award.
Eliszabeth Van, CavBots mechanical team lead, was chosen to interview for the First Robotics Dean’s List Award. This recognizes outstanding leadership and communication skills for 10th and 11th graders. Her successful interview and hard work resulted in her advancement to the District Semi-Finals in hopes of being awarded FIRST Robotics recognition, recommendation letters and a chance to work closer with FIRST.
The CavBots team also won the FIRST Excellence in Engineering Award sponsored by Delphi, that celebrates an elegant and advantageous machine feature as well as District Event Finalists.
“FIRST and Cavbots have changed my life forever. I will forever be thankful for all the opportunities I have gotten through this program, and will definitely spend my life paying it forward,” said Eliszabeth after her win.
CavBots will continue onto the Houston competition March 19th at the M. O. Campbell Education Center.
