HOUSTON, TX - The Kroger Company (NYSE: KR) today announced a $100,000 commitment to the Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund, funding access to food, health care, shelter and more in Harris, Fort Bend, Waller and Montgomery counties. The Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund will help the most vulnerable of our neighbors meet their basic needs and will help impactful nonprofits in our area serve our community through the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic aftermath.

Additionally, it was announced today that Kroger Houston, Gallery Furniture owner Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale, and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner are teaming up to collect food for 10,000 seniors in need. Nonperishable food may be donated at any Houston-area Kroger grocery store or at Gallery Furniture locations at 6006 N. Freeway and 7227 W. Grand Parkway S. in Richmond. Cleaning supplies and toiletries also may be donated at the Gallery Furniture locations.

“There is a great need, now more than ever, to support the communities that have been impacted by this pandemic,” said Joe Kelley, president of Kroger Houston division. “Families across the country are struggling to pay bills, feed their families and access healthcare. We want to help. We want to support the communities we operate in, the families who we see in our stores every day, and our neighbors.”

The Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund was launched by United Way of Greater Houston and Greater Houston Community Foundation to help those in critical need during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been endorsed by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation announced last week a $3M donation to Feeding America and No Kid Hungry to rapidly deploy hunger relief resources to food insecure communities and food banks across the nation, including the Houston Food Bank. The funding will not only support local food banks but also fund initiatives that ensure children, whose schools may be closed, still have access to nutritious meals.

Kroger customers have the option to round up their total at checkout to the nearest dollar, with proceeds supporting the fight against hunger through the Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation.
