THE WOODLANDS, TX - Following a rigorous application process and interview, the local American Legion Post #305 has selected Nicholas Harris and Zac Winton, current juniors at The John Cooper School, to attend the Texas Boys State that will be held in Austin June 7-12.

The program, conducted in 48 states, is an intensive view of the ins and outs of government, from the township to the state level. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations and assemblies as well as recreational programs.

Both students say they are very excited to have been given this opportunity. “I am looking forward to connecting with students from across the state,” Winton said. Harris says he is grateful to the veterans of the American Legion for making it possible for him to learn about our democratic system by engaging in the “Learn by Doing” concept. “It’s a terrific opportunity to develop as a better servant leader and citizen in this great country,” Harris said

The local American Legion sponsors rising seniors from local high schools to attend Boys State. Students are nominated based on demonstrating outstanding qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service to the school and community.
