John Cooper School athletes awarded at Night of Champions

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- John Cooper School held a virtual awards ceremony to honor the personal and team success of the 2019-2020 Dragon athletics programs. The award show which streamed on Cooper’s YouTube channel highlighted the hard work and dedication of their athletes and allowed fellow dragon athletes to get creative in celebrating the accomplishments and memories of the 2019-2020 seasons, especially the ones cut short due to COVID-19.

Here are some of the notable award winners:

Female Dragon Booster Club Leadership Award - Alexis Eckerson, senior Cheerleader

“Your authentic energy that promotes and advances not only the cheerleading team, but all Cooper teams, is well noticed by the coaches, teammates, teachers, and administrators,” said Cooper AD John Hoye when presenting Eckerson with the award.

Eckerson will attend High Point University this fall.

Male Dragon Booster Club Leadership Award - Cadan Hanson, senior Basketball, Cross Country, Track

“Your teammates respect your efforts to make your team’s strength and bonds true and noticed by opponents,” said AD Hoye.

Hanson will attend Rice University in the fall.

Female Athlete of the Year - Alex Sims, senior Basketball, Softball

Sims was recognized as a key member of the 25-game winning basketball team and led the softball team in batting average before the pandemic ended the season. Sims will attend Notre Dame in the fall.

Male Athlete of the Year - Thomas Elkhoury, senior Football, Soccer, Track

Elkhoury was named All-SPC for the second year in a row as a wide receiver and a catalyst for the team’s success on the soccer pitch. Elkhoury will attend Wesleyan University in the fall.
