HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Business Journal named Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor as one of its Most Admired CEO honorees for 2020. A panel of judges looked for characteristics such as contribution to company success, civic involvement, career achievement and more.

“I have had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Head on a variety of matters to ensure Lone Star College students are given access to a quality education that remains affordable,” said Alton Smith, Ed.D., LSCS Board of Trustees chair. “His approach demonstrates the qualities one looks for in a leader. He values communication, integrity, accountability and a vision toward the future.”

In all, the judges selected 31 for-profit leaders and 19 nonprofit leaders for this year's award. The 50 honorees will be recognized in a special section of HBJ's Aug. 21 weekly edition and at a virtual event via a live stage Aug. 20.

“I would like to congratulate all the other recognized honorees who make our community a better place to live,” said Head. “It is truly an honor for me to be included among this group of leaders who have given so much of their time and talent.”

This year's judges were HBJ Editor-in-Chief Giselle Greenwood; Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank president and CEO; Jonathan Newton, Baker McKenzie LLP partner; and Robert Reedy, Porter Hedges LLP managing partner.

“They say the true test of a leader is someone who can confront adversity and make those around them stronger,” said Smith. “There is no better example of this than the challenge Dr. Head faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to his leadership, LSC increased online courses from 1,624 to 6,825 in just three weeks, a growth of 320%, providing students the opportunity to complete the spring 2020 semester.”
