Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at The Woodlands offers superior patient care; recognized as a Center of Excellence
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Making the decision to have orthopedic surgery can be difficult, and determining when to have surgery may be complicated by uncontrollable factors such as COVID-19. Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at The Woodlands offers a safe, comprehensive team approach to orthopedic surgery that can have a significant impact on quality of care and speed of recovery.
“Everyone involved in our orthopedics program is dedicated to providing excellent patient care, from doctors and nurses to anesthesiologists, physical therapists, social workers and hospital staff at all levels,” said Dr. Eric Price, orthopedic surgeon and director of the orthopedic surgery program at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.
A multidisciplinary committee meets regularly to establish benchmarks, set goals, evaluate metrics, discuss opportunities and work together to improve processes and solve problems. “Our metrics reflect a decreased length of hospital stays, less pain, faster recovery and better outcomes,” added Price.
The hospital’s orthopedics program recently received the Orthopaedic Center of Excellence (COE) designation from DNV GL Healthcare. It is the only program in Montgomery County and the second in the state to receive the designation, which is obtained by achieving certification in at least three (3) orthopedic service line programs based on requirements set forth by DNV GL Healthcare. Houston Methodist The Woodlands has earned certification for its Hip & Knee, Shoulder and Spine programs.
“Achieving COE designation shows that we are committed to excellence and performing at the highest level from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation, education and outcomes,” said Price.
Steve Said, owner of Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, felt that commitment first hand when he recently had his knee replaced during the pandemic. “I was not apprehensive at all. I could tell everyone was ready to address any issues or concerns in this new world. From the very first phone call, the hospital was succinct, encouraging and informative about what the process was going to be. Dr. Price’s group is exceptional,” said Said.
Said also experienced a virtual “Joint Camp,” which is a class Houston Methodist The Woodlands offers to patients so they can learn what to expect and do before, during and after surgery.
“The video version was fantastic,” added Said. “Everything was well planned and everyone was professional. I am doing great and feel I am ahead of schedule. The physical therapy team at Houston Methodist is just outstanding. They push you, but they know how far to take you.”
Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at The Woodlands continues to see patients during the pandemic and perform surgeries safely, in accordance to Gov. Greg Abbott’s order, which allows hospitals to perform elective procedures that do not deplete bed capacity needed for COVID patients.
The orthopedics team specializes in care for foot and ankle, hip and knee, neck and spine, shoulder and sports medicine. To ensure a safe clinic environment, all patients and staff are required to wear a mask and have their temperature checked before entering the office.
