CYRPESS, TX -- The Boardwalk at Towne Lake will once again glow pink throughout October in partnership with Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Cypress in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Monthlong initiative brings breast cancer awareness, education and community engagement to Cypress throughout October

Through the annual Boardwalk Goes Pink initiative, the waterfront destination will be illuminated in pink each evening, creating a visible reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness, screening and early detection while bringing the Cypress community together in support of those affected by breast cancer.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of how screening, early detection and timely treatment can save lives,” said Lindsey Pimentel, director of Oncology Services at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. “Houston Methodist is committed to raising awareness and providing compassionate, comprehensive care right in your neighborhood. We participate in events like The Boardwalk Goes Pink to encourage women to prioritize cancer screenings and remind our community we are here to provide support every step of the way.”

According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Experts say a mammogram and clinical breast exam on a regular basis are among the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early.

Sponsored by Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Cypress, The Boardwalk’s pink illumination will continue nightly throughout October. Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Cypress will also feature an educational activation walk along the waterfront with a variety of breast cancer awareness facts and infographics designed to educate visitors and raise awareness for the cause. Throughout the month, Houston Methodist will distribute 1,500 bags with breast cancer awareness materials to Boardwalk visitors.

“Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center is an innovative leader in breast cancer care, and we’re honored that The Boardwalk can help shine a light on prevention, detection and treatment,” said Jennifer Symons, chief marketing officer for Caldwell Companies, developer of Boardwalk Towne Lake.

Guests are encouraged to wear pink and attend Houston Methodist’s pink kickoff event at The Boardwalk on Friday, October 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The community is invited to enjoy live music, giveaways, photo opportunities, pink specials and the opportunity to hear from local physicians.
