MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a couple of tropical storms and several disturbances for potential tropical development. At this time, these systems do not pose an immediate threat to southeast Texas. However, we should monitor the evolution of these systems over the next few days.

Today, September 10, 2020 is the peak of the hurricane season and the Tropics are becoming increasingly active. We are monitoring two disturbances that have a low to medium chance of development in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days.

• The first area, which is located over the northeast Gulf of Mexico, may slowly develop as it moves west and southwest over the western Gulf of Mexico over the weekend and early next week.

• The second area is currently located northeast of the Bahamas and will move across Florida on Friday. Some development may occur as it moves westward across the eastern Gulf of Mexico early next week.

At this time, models are not suggesting significant development with either of these systems and the main impact should be enhanced rainfall chances across the region. Models don't always handle tropical cyclone formation in the Gulf very well and uncertainty is high. Therefore, it is important to keep monitoring these systems over the next 5 to 7 days.
