THE WOODLANDS, TX - The family of beloved Conroe High School Football Coach Buddy Moorhead, along with the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Community Foundation are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2020 MCCF Buddy Moorhead Memorial Scholarship is Christian J. Pack, a 2020 graduate from Conroe High School. This scholarship supports his first semester at Houston Baptist University where he is seeking a degree in Business.

Born and raised in Conroe, Coach Moorhead was known for his devasting Tiger defensive lines and the golf teams he coached during the 1970’s. He was named Texas Coach of the Year for golf. He moved from Defense Coach to head coach of the Conroe High School Tigers Football team in 1980. During his last season he coached a stunning 11 winning games. He died suddenly of a heart attack on the morning of Father’s Day in 1983 at the age of 44.

“Buddy set an example of the importance of achieving a college education, according to Conroe ISD colleague Charlie Patterson. “He knew in order to live out his dream, which was to coach young people, a college education was a priority. Today he would be telling young people, you narrow your choices in life when you limit your education.”

The Moorhead family established a scholarship for a graduating Conroe High School senior who participated in football and exemplified the “spirit” of the Conroe Tigers as the best way to memorialize him.

The 2020 winner of this scholarship, Christian Pack, was Conroe High School’s Tiger Football Team quarterback for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and team captain for the 2019 season. He was recognized as the 2019 District 15-8A and the Montgomery County Football Offensive Player of the Year along with numerous other awards for his football leadership and talents.

He was as talented off the field as on the field. As a student in CISD’s Academy for Science and Health Professions, he won the Johnson Space Center Jacobs Science Explorer Award, Marine Technology Society Marine Technology Award, and Kids’ Live Matter Most Useful Project Award. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and a youth leader at the Ark Family Church.

The Moorhead family, along with the board of the Montgomery County Community Foundation, are proud to award this scholarship to Mr. Pack. The MCCF Buddy Moorhead Memorial Scholarship is available to CISD graduating seniors who participated in football and exhibit the Conroe Tigers’ Spirit. Interested students should contact their school counselor for the application in the spring of 2021.
