MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- The COVID-19 virus has made everyone think – and work - out of the box. Mosaics of Mercy, a Montgomery County Community Foundation 2019 grantee, knew podcasts could help people better understand mental health, the treatments available, and the issues surrounding this hot topic. Podcasts could be archived and available to whoever needed them, whenever they needed them. A grant from the Community Foundation made those podcasts a reality. COVID sharply spotlighted mental health concerns for the families and friends of people struggling with the disease. The podcasts with mental health specialists greatly expanded this small organization’s ability to help people ask the right questions to get the help they needed quickly. It turned out to be the right project for this turbulent time.

This story—along with countless others like it—demonstrates the importance of community foundations in this country, which are uniquely situated to improve their regions through supporting innovative solutions and creating powerful partnerships. From November 12 to 18, we celebrate Community Foundation Week, a time when we can share and reflect on the stories of impact over the last year. Though you may not yet know your local community foundation, you’ve likely felt its impact.

That’s because Montgomery County Community Foundation and 900+ other community foundations across the country help to bring donors and residents together. Community foundations work to support the efforts that will help the places we call home continue to flourish and grow.

There are many valuable causes that need to be supported in Montgomery County and our community foundation unites donors’ concerns and passions with long term legacy impact. Investment earnings from donations fuel annual scholarships to local students as well as grants to organizations that address a wide range of areas including animal welfare, health, children, senior adults, families, veterans, arts, culture, heritage, those in need, and much more.

As we enter the giving season, people feel a need to give back and support our community. They’ll look to ensure that their heartfelt giving—however they choose to give—will have impact. That’s why so many of them will choose to give to a community foundation.
A gift to your local community foundation is an investment in the future of your community. At Montgomery County Community Foundation, we don’t think about the next election or business cycle, we think about how to improve the quality of life for the next generation and future generations.

That can seem daunting, but it’s one that we all share. During Community Foundation Week, I hope you’ll join us in recognizing our collective impact and the difference we can make together, right here in Montgomery County. For more information, check out our website at www.mccfoundation.org.
