THE WOODLANDS, TX --

Boys Basketball

College Park 63, The Woodlands 40

After the two schools played an all-time classic in the District 13-6A football championship game, both sides were eager to take the rivalry to the hardwood. The first meeting in the basketball edition of the War of the Woods was all CP as the Cavaliers played a complete game to make a big statement on the road.

The Woodlands’ only lead in Wednesday night’s game came to an end with about three minutes left in the opening quarter. In a perfect example of College Park’s playing style in which defense leads to offense, Drew Calderon’s steal and fast-break dunk sparked what felt like a never-ending run for the Cavs. Calderon led the way with 27 points, followed by 15 from Ty Buckmon, who had his way offensively as well. The smothering defense combined with Buckmon and Calderon splashing threes gave CP a 13-point lead at the half.

The second half wasn’t much different as College Park continued to lock down the Highlanders on the defensive end while finding great shots offensively. For The Woodlands, Brock Luechtefeld put together a nice performance in the paint with 14 points. In the end, the 23-point win sends the Cavaliers to the top of the table at 4-0 in District 13-6A.
