18th Annual YMCA Kids Triathlon

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- After what seemed like non-stop rain, we finally had a break of weather just in time for the 18th annual YMCA Kids Triathlon presented by Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. Almost 300 kid athletes participated in the swim, bike and run through the YMCA and Branch Crossing campus. The determination on the faces of these young athletes was evident as they geared up to clock their fastest time.

Boys and girls, ages 6 to 9, were to swim 50 meters up and down the YMCA pool. Then cycle for 1 mile through the Branch Crossing campus. And finally run for 1/4th of a mile to the finish line where they were cheered on by family members.

Boys and girls, ages 10 to 12 had a slightly longer course. Their swim was 100 meters up and down the YMCA pool twice. Then they ran to their bikes and cycled 2 miles through the Branch Crossing campus. Finally they parked their bike and ran 1/2 a mile to the finish line.

The YMCA Kids Triathlon promotes health and fitness while giving children the accomplishment along with satisfaction of completing a skillful goal. As kids from all walks of life come together, the YMCA is also promoting confidence in children to grow and make friends in the process. Roxanne Davis, Community Liaison as well as event director, has been with the YMCA for 28 years and plans to be a part of this community for years to come. She has planned future events to keep promoting health and fitness in The Woodlands community.
