South African Heritage Day at Mozambik

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The South African holiday Heritage Day, also known colloquially as Braai Day, is this Friday, Sept. 24. Mozambik South African Kitchen in The Woodlands will celebrate the multicultural holiday with a Heritage Day party on Saturday, September 25 and “Braai and Fry” specials from Sept. 24 through 30.

The public holiday is a day for all South Africans to celebrate their unique heritage as well as the many ethnic and cultural groups that make up the “Rainbow Nation”. South Africa is home to more than a dozen unique cultural and ethnic identities including Zulu, Xhosa, Sepedi, Setswana, Hindu, Muslim, Afrikaans and more. The holiday was established in 1996 by the country’s post-Apartheid government as an opportunity for all South Africans to celebrate diversity and inclusivity within their nation.

“Braai”, an Afrikaans word for barbecue or grilling, is central to how many South Africans celebrate Heritage Day. In honor of that, Mozambik is offering a Braai and Fry special from Friday, Sept. 24 through Thursday, Sept. 30. For $25 customers will get a braai platter with a quarter grilled chicken, pork belly ribs, boerwors (traditional South African beef sausage) and two sides, with a second option featuring fried calamari instead of chicken.

On Saturday, Sept. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mozambik will host a Heritage Day party on its patio, complete with dancers and performers. The party is open to all who wish to join.
