THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On Friday, October 1, 2021, at about 7:00 AM, multiple First Responder agencies and the Montgomery County Search and Rescue team entered the Sam Houston National Forest to continue search efforts to locate the children. During this exhaustive search, the children were located by a volunteer about 1 mile from where they entered the forest. The children were checked by Montgomery County EMS personnel who confirmed they were not injured and were reunited with their family. After a brief interview with the children, it was learned the children diverted from the trail to play by a dry creek, causing them to become confused with their directions. The children also said they were taught by their parents if they’re lost, they should remain together, and wait for an adult to find them.

The investigation of the incident is no longer active and is considered closed.

It is an understatement to say we are overjoyed with the outcome of this incident. We want to thank the many First Responders and civilian volunteers for their tireless search efforts that led to the safe recovery of the children. We would also like to thank the community for their offers of assistance, overwhelming support, and prayers to bring the children home safely.
