THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Earlier today, Facebook went off the grid for reasons unknown - right on the heels of a former employee giving a whistleblowing interview on 60 Minutes - taking its entire network of services with it. Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and virtual reality arm Oculus are all in some form down and out for the moment.

WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Oculus join Facebook in Outage

Facebook (via Twitter) has let followers know it is “aware” of the situation and is working on “getting things back to normal.” However, no other news has been forthcoming as to what has caused the outage on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Oculus; nor have any estimates been provided as to when these services might be restored.

Apparently coincidently, this outage occurred just as Antigone Davis, Facebook’s “global head of safety,” was on a news appearance tour to discuss the bombshell 60 Minutes interview last night where a former Facebook employee made claims about algorithms at Facebook that amplified hate speech in the name of optimizing page hits, among other allegations. Currently, Facebook’s stock is down approximately six percent.

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for updates to this breaking story.
