THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Drive-up/Drop-off location on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Woodlands Township front parking lot, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., 77381.

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) representatives with support from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office personnel will be present to anonymously collect expired and unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal at no charge. The event helps prevent accidental overdose, theft, misuse, and accidental ingestion of these medications.

Persons dropping off medications should follow the directional signs to the drop-off boxes and remain with their vehicle during drop-off.

According to protocols provided by the DEA, “participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. If an original container is submitted, the individual should be encouraged to remove any identifying information from the prescription label.” Also, “liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.”

Medications will only be accepted during the scheduled event time. Items may not be dropped off before or after the event. “Sharps” (items with needles) are not scheduled to be collected. For information on disposal of needles or syringes for household use, please visit the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) website for instructions at: https://www.tceq.texas.gov/publications/gi/gi-418.html.

Additionally, Year-Round Drug Disposal locations may be found by zip code at https://takebackday.dea.gov. The closest location may not be in The Woodlands and may require you to go inside a specified pharmacy to drop off your medications at their approved kiosk.
